A child abuse case in Lagos has drawn public concern following conflicting medical evaluations from two health facilities regarding the alleged defilement of a three-year-old girl.
Available information Tuesday showed that the incident involves a market trader identified as Monday, who was accused of assaulting the minor.
The case, initially reported in December 2025, was taken to the police at Ejigbo Division before being transferred to the Gender Unit of the Lagos state command for further investigation.
Early medical findings from a facility identified as Mirabel Centre reportedly indicated that the child was suffering from an infection. However, a subsequent examination conducted at another medical facility in Igando, with approval from the police Gender Unit, reportedly revealed injuries consistent with sexual penetration.
The child’s mother, Mrs. Ogechi Okoye, has raised concerns over the handling of the case, alleging that she faced intimidation and physical assault from individuals believed to be connected to the suspect. She also claimed that there were attempts to pressure her into withdrawing the case.
An advocacy group, Ambassador for Peace and Enlightenment Foundation (AMPEF), became involved after receiving a distress call in March 2026. Representatives of the organisation visited the family and reported observing injuries on the mother, as well as the child’s deteriorating condition, which allegedly included ongoing bleeding and discharge.
The group questioned the accuracy and thoroughness of the initial medical assessment, citing the results of the second examination as grounds for concern. It has called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into both the alleged abuse and the differing medical reports.
There are also unverified claims of possible interference and attempts to influence the case, including alleged financial inducements. These claims have not been independently confirmed.
Advocates are urging authorities to ensure due process and accountability, stating the need for justice in cases involving vulnerable victims.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from the police spokesperson regarding the matter.
