The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully contained two separate fire outbreaks that occurred overnight in Agege and Yaba, averting what could have escalated into major disasters.
The first incident was reported at about 10:46 p.m. on Friday at Tower Aluminum Village along Abeokuta Expressway in Dopemu, Agege.
Fire crews from Ikeja and Agege stations responded swiftly, bringing the situation under control, Blueprint.ng reports.
The blaze affected multiple offices and stores of varying sizes within the commercial premises, which covers approximately 2,592 square metres on a larger four-acre site.
While sections of the structures and their contents were significantly damaged, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the affected areas.
In a separate incident in the early hours of Sunday, at about 3:15 a.m., a fire engulfed a three-storey commercial building on Oyabiyi Street, opposite the NLC office in Yaba.
The building housed several shops and stores stocked with textile materials, which fueled the intensity of the blaze.
Emergency responders from Somolu, Ilupeju, and Sari Iganmu fire stations were promptly deployed and successfully contained the fire, stopping it from extending to nearby buildings.
In both cases, the fire service demonstrated professionalism and rapid response, ensuring there were no casualties recorded.
The Controller General of the agency, Margaret Adeseye, reiterated the importance of adhering to fire safety measures.
She urged residents and business owners, particularly those dealing with flammable materials, to remain vigilant at all times.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the causes of the incidents.
