The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) weekend announced the deployment of additional personnel and critical logistics across Lagos state during the Easter period to manage the anticipated surge in traffic.
The general manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, issued a strong advisory while urging motorists and all road users to exercise heightened caution, discipline, and strict adherence to traffic regulations throughout the festive period.
Bakare-Oki warned against dangerous driving habits, including driving under the influence of alcohol, excessive speeding, reckless overtaking, and other unsafe practices that could lead to avoidable accidents and loss of lives and property.
He noted that while Easter is a time of celebration, it also places increased pressure on the state’s transportation network, making responsible road use more critical than ever.
“No celebration is worth endangering lives. Motorists must understand that a single moment of recklessness can result in irreversible consequences,” he stressed.
To ensure smooth vehicular movement, LASTMA has strategically deployed an expanded corps of officers to key traffic corridors, highways, transport hubs, business districts, recreational centres, and religious venues across the state.
The general manager said the agency has also strengthened its operational capacity with the deployment of high- and medium-capacity tow trucks, alongside essential traffic management equipment such as cones and safety barriers. These resources are positioned to enable rapid response to breakdowns and traffic incidents.
“Our officers have been mandated to intensify surveillance, enforce compliance, and promptly address traffic disruptions to maintain order on our roads,” Bakare-Oki added.
He reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring seamless mobility during the festive season, noting that all operational teams are fully mobilised to manage the expected increase in vehicular movement.
Bakare-Oki further appealed to motorists to remain patient, obey traffic directives, and cooperate with officers on duty.
He also called on commercial drivers, transport union leaders, fleet operators, and logistics managers to reinforce safety awareness among their members, particularly on the dangers of overloading, speeding, and substance abuse while driving.
LASTMA extended warm Easter greetings to residents and visitors in Lagos state, assuring the public of uninterrupted traffic management and enforcement services throughout the celebrations.
