With the gale of defections across political party lines, Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde appears to be the People’s Democratic Party (PDP’s) last man standing, as his Bauchi state colleague, Bala Mohammed is already on his way out.

Governor the Bala Mohammed, who is chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Tuesday indicated plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) due to lingering crisis in PDP.

The governor gave the hint after a closed-door meeting with a delegation of the ADC, led by a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, at the Presidential Lodge, Bauchi.

Governor Bala stated that despite exhausting all avenues for reconciliation within the PDP at both national and state levels, no meaningful progress has been made.

The Bauchi governor described the ADC as a “preferred destination,” noting however that consultations and negotiations were still on-going to ensure a well-informed decision.

A source told Blueprint that, all things being equal, the Bauchi governor would officially defect to his new party on Thursday.

Earlier, leader of the ADC delegation, Babachir Lawal had said the visit was at the instance of the party’s national chairman, David Mark, aimed at inviting Governor Mohammed to join the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He described the governor as a fearless political figure whose entry into the party would strengthen its chances in future elections.
