The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has intervened in a troubling case of domestic violence in Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja. An elderly woman was reportedly subjected to repeated abuse by her son, a man in his mid-30s, prompting urgent action by the agency.
According to a statement from NAPTIP, the case had been ongoing for some time and was brought to the agency’s attention late yesterday by concerned members of the public.
It noted that preliminary findings indicate that the victim had previously attempted to flee the abusive environment and make a formal report.
NAPTIP added that following the latest report, it’s Rapid Response Squad swiftly mobilised to the location, rescued the victim, and took the suspect into custody.
“Necessary procedures are currently ongoing as the Agency continues its investigation and works to ensure justice for the survivor,” NAPTIP noted.
The Agency commended the concerned citizens who reported the incident and urges members of the public to continue speaking up against all forms of abuse, violence, and exploitation.
