
The Lagos State Police Command, Thursday marked Day Four of the 2026 National Police Week, with a security stakeholders’ meeting and the presentation of ₦53.3 million to families of officers who died in active service.
The event brought together Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), community and religious leaders and youth representatives, in a renewed push to strengthen collaboration between the police and the public.
Addressing participants, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, commended stakeholders for their continued support in crime prevention and maintaining public safety across the state.
He stressed that effective policing requires strong community partnership, timely reporting of incidents, and collective vigilance.
Fatai also highlighted key security concerns such as cult-related activities and electoral violence, noting that the Command is intensifying intelligence-led operations and deploying technology-driven strategies to improve response and enforcement.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of cheques totalling ₦53,387,209.48 to families of fallen officers, under the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme.
The gesture reflects the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to supporting families left behind by officers who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the financial support, describing it as timely relief that would help ease the burdens faced after their loss.
Reaffirming the Force’s position, the Commissioner assured that the sacrifices of fallen officers would never be forgotten, pledging continued support and recognition for their families.
