The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has sanctioned Nasarawa United for breaching league rules during their Matchday 33 clash with Kun Khalifat FC.
The league body said the Lafia club failed to provide adequate security, allowing unauthorised persons into restricted areas. Nasarawa United were fined ₦1m each for failure to provide adequate security and for throwing dangerous objects at match officials.
The club also received a ₦1m fine for unsporting behaviour and another ₦1m for improper conduct by supporters that led to the harassment of officials and to them being held hostage for 20 minutes.
In addition to the fines, Nasarawa United will play their next two home matches behind closed doors. The club has 48 hours to appeal or accept the sanctions.
Meanwhile, Kun Khalifat defender Ameh Joseph has expressed confidence ahead of Sunday’s Matchday 34 meeting with Warri Wolves at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
“The mood in camp is electric ahead of our game against Warri Wolves,” Joseph told Kun Khalifat FC media.
“Everyone is sharp, focused, and hungry, we’ve put in the work, we know what is at stake and we are coming out on Sunday with full intensity.
“No excuse no holding back we are going for all three points. We will make sure we do everything within our power to get the three points in the field of play.”
Elsewhere, Bendel Insurance have cautioned head coach Kennedy Boboye after his misconduct in the Matchday 32 fixture against Plateau United. The Benin club apologised to the Nigeria Referee Association and condemned the incident.
“After a careful review of the circumstances surrounding the incident and the consequences thereof, the management expressed disgust and condemned the action of head coach Kennedy Boboye and described the incident as ugly and unfortunate,” Bendel Insurance were quoted by NPFL media.
“The management has also cautioned coach Kennedy Boboye and his crew against a repeat of such action(s), insisting such behaviours will not be tolerated as Insurance FC remains a disciplined and law-abiding club.”
