In a troubling development from Abeokuta, Ogun State, a 37-year-old nurse, Keinde Adesanya, has been remanded for 60 days at Ibara Correctional Centre. This follows allegations linking her to an unlawful abortion that tragically claimed the life of 23-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Victoria Ariyo.

Adesanya appeared before a Magistrate Court in Isabo, facing a four-count charge that includes conspiracy, supplying drugs for an illegal abortion, and murder.

According to the police prosecutor, Solomon Babalola, the alleged offences were committed between January and March 2026 in the Ikereku area of Laderin, Abeokuta.

He told the court that the substances allegedly provided by the defendant were linked to the death of the corps member.

The charge sheet read in part:

Count I: Conspiracy to commit felony (abortion), contrary to Section 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

Count II: Unlawfully attempting to procure abortion by supplying drugs to Ariyo Victoria Olapeju, contrary to Section 230 of the Criminal Code.

Count III: Conspiracy to commit felony (murder), contrary to Section 324 of the Criminal Code.

Count IV: Unlawfully killing Ariyo Victoria Olapeju by administering drugs for abortion, contrary to Section 319 of the Criminal Code.

Presiding over the matter, Magistrate O. Sam-Obaleye granted the prosecution’s request to remand the defendant pending legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions.

The court subsequently adjourned the case until May 26, 2026.

Police findings further indicated that the deceased corps member was allegedly in a relationship with an NYSC Inspector for Abeokuta South Local Government, which reportedly led to her pregnancy.

The NYSC official had earlier been arraigned on Monday before Magistrate A.K. Araba on charges of conspiracy and attempted abortion. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N500,000.
