A group under the aegis of Concerned Nigerian Citizens has petitioned the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), raising alarm over alleged procedural irregularities and questionable administrative arrangements ahead of the Osun State governorship election.

In the petition dated and received at INEC headquarters in Abuja, the group accused the electoral body of deploying what it described as “controversial procedural arrangements” that could allegedly favour certain political parties and undermine the credibility of the poll.

The petitioners claimed that some of the operational decisions being taken by electoral authorities “raise serious concerns about neutrality, fairness and transparency,” warning that such actions could erode public trust in the electoral process if not urgently addressed.

They specifically called on INEC to review what they described as irregular deployment of electoral officials, alleging that some personnel were being drawn from institutions and agencies that could compromise their independence in the conduct of elections.

According to the group, “the integrity of the electoral process must not be sacrificed on the altar of administrative convenience or political interests,” insisting that all arrangements must strictly comply with established electoral guidelines.

The petition further urged INEC to ensure strict adherence to procedural standards, warning that any deviation could trigger public suspicion and potentially endanger the credibility of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.

The concerned citizens also demanded the immediate review of all controversial postings and operational directives, insisting that only neutral and professionally vetted personnel should be involved in election duties.

Signatories to the petition included Abdulsalam Musa Akinkunmi and Owolabi O. Hassan, who signed on behalf of the group.

INEC has yet to issue an official response to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
