
Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command in have arrested a 30-year-old man found with 100 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition concealed inside the fuel tank of his motorcycle at the Yankara border checkpoint.
The suspect, Umar Sani of Magami Village in Gusau LGA, was intercepted on April 17, 2026, at about 7:20 a.m. by operatives at the Zamfara–Katsina border while riding a red Boxer motorcycle from Abuja to his hometown.
This was contained in a statement by the Zamfara State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer DSP Yazid Abubakar.
Police said the arrest followed credible intelligence during a routine stop-and-search operation.
“A search of the motorcycle led to the discovery of 100 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition for AK-47 rifles hidden in the fuel tank,” he said.
He added that Sani is in custody as detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department intensify investigations to uncover the source of the ammunition and arrest other members of the network.
Commissioner of Police CP A.M. Bello said the arrest underscores the command’s proactive approach to disrupting the supply chain of illegal arms fueling criminality in the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to security agencies.
