Porto manager Francesco Farioli defended striker Terem Moffi after the Nigerian was booed during the club’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Terem Moffi was lively throughout the match and created several chances, including a first-half header that went straight at the goalkeeper. However, sections of the crowd whistled when he was replaced in the 60th minute following a missed opportunity.

Speaking ahead of Porto’s league meeting with Estoril Praia, Farioli urged supporters to stay united behind the striker and the squad.

“In the match against Nottingham, there was a moment of some frustration, but he’s trying his best, working hard in recent months,” the coach said.

“He’s on the right track, he’s already scored important goals for us and more will come.

“The frustration and emotion of the moment must remain in that moment; the Porto family must be united and undoubtedly support the team, showing that all the players are focused on what’s best for FC Porto.”

Meanwhile, Super Eagles of Nigeria goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is chasing a personal milestone when Udinese face AC Milan at the San Siro at 5 p.m. later today, April 11.

The 26-year-old is targeting the first run of three consecutive clean sheets of his career after shutouts against Genoa and Como in Udinese’s last two league games.

Okoye has not conceded since Jérémie Boga scored in the 38th minute of a 1-0 defeat to Juventus on March 14.
