
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Babalola, has charged six newly promoted officers to redouble their efforts and justify the confidence reposed in them by the Nigerian Army.
The charge was delivered during a colourful decoration ceremony at the 81 Division Officers’ Mess, Victoria Island, Lagos, where the officers were formally decorated with their new ranks of Lieutenant Colonel.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya.
According to the statement, the promoted officers include Lieutenant Colonel A. Sanusi, Acting Chief of Staff, 81 Division Military Intelligence Brigade; Lieutenant Colonel A.I. Lawal, Catering Officer, Headquarters 81 Division; Lieutenant Colonel L.A. Ishaku, Acting Deputy Director, 81 Division Physical Training; Lieutenant Colonel B.J. Gimba, Chief Librarian, 81 Division Education Services; Lieutenant Colonel M.B. Sifawa, Commandant, Command Secondary School Abeokuta; and Lieutenant Colonel G.O. Uwagboe, Acting Commander, 81 Division Band.
In his remarks, Major General Babalola congratulated the officers and commended their discipline, dedication, and professionalism, describing their elevation as well deserved. He stressed that promotion in the Nigerian Army is not merely a reward for past achievements but a call to greater responsibility and higher expectations.
“I have carefully observed all of the newly promoted senior officers, and from the way they are progressing, the sky is their limit,” he said.
The GOC further reminded the officers that increased responsibility demands greater commitment, urging them to remain steadfast, loyal, and committed to the core values and ideals of the Nigerian Army.
He also encouraged them to continually acknowledge the place of prayer in their lives and careers, urging them to appreciate God’s blessings and seek divine guidance as they assume higher responsibilities.
Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Lieutenant Colonel A. Sanusi expressed gratitude to God and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the honour bestowed on them. He also appreciated the GOC for his leadership and mentorship, assuring him of their renewed dedication and commitment to duty.
Sanusi further thanked their families, friends, colleagues, and subordinates for their unwavering support, prayers, and encouragement throughout their careers.
The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, including formation commanders, the Commander 81 Division Garrison, Commander Division Equipment Support, Commander Nigerian Army Band Corps, Commandant Nigerian Army School of Music, as well as staff officers, soldiers, family members, friends, and well-wishers.
