The reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Remo Stars, kept their survival hopes alive with a tense 1-0 win over South-West rivals Shooting Stars in Ikenne on Sunday, April 5.

Samuel Anaekwe scored four minutes after the break to settle the derby and hand the Sky Blue Stars their 12th win of the NPFL campaign. The result moves them to 17th on 40 points. They remain in the relegation zone on goal difference with five matches left.

It has been a sharp drop from last season’s title high. NOP NIGERIA reports that their NPFL title-winning coach Daniel Ogunmodede stepped aside after returning from the 2025 AFCON with the Super Eagles. Usman Abdallah took over in February and is now locked in a scrap to preserve their top-flight status.

Kwara United strengthened their survival bid with a convincing 3-0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors. Junior Aimufua, Samsudeen Mohammed and Abdulsalam Abdulsalam were all on target as the Harmony Boys climbed to 18th on 39 points.

Bottom club Kun Khalifat FC snatched a dramatic 1-0 away win against Nasarawa United, Stanley Otu striking in stoppage time. They remain four points from safety, but the late winner keeps faint hopes alive.

At the summit, eight-time champions Rangers International moved top after a goalless draw at home to Barau FC. They are level on 55 points with Rivers United, who fell 2-0 to Warri Wolves.

Former champions Kano Pillars delivered the biggest win of the weekend, thrashing Bendel Insurance 4-0. Mustapha Jibrin, Chiedozie Okorie, Muhammad Aminu and Bernard Ovoke all got on the scoresheet in a ruthless display.
