Reforms and enforcement drive embarked on by the Niger State Internal Revenue Services (NGSIRS) has moved the state’s revenue profile to N5billion in 2025 as against N600m in 2021.

The special adviser, special duties to the Executive Chairman of NGSIR, Usman Umar, stated this in a statement in Minna.

Umar dismissed claims of irregularities in the operations of the revenue service in some quarters as false and calculated attempt to undermine the growth of Internally generated revenue in the state.

He said, “The outcome of our reforms and enforcement drive is evident in the continuous growth of the State’s Internally Generated Revenue. NGSIRS has moved the State’s revenue profile from a paltry N600 million monthly average in 2021 to an average of N5 billion monthly as at December 2025”.

He described such claims as malicious and grossly misleading, adding that NGSIRS operates an open-door policy and remains accessible through its official communication channels.

According to him, the agency acknowledged that revenue leakages remain a challenge, explaining that such issue was not peculiar to Niger state, adding that revenue authorities across the world grapple with similar problems.

“Revenue leakages are not unique to NGSIRS. They remain the principal challenge faced by revenue authorities globally. Our teams work daily to identify and block these leakages, often without publicity, as our focus is on results, not headlines,” it stated.

He attributed the significant increase in the state’s IGR to the growth in reforms, enforcement, and the deployment of technology, adding that, “the agency reaffirms its commitment to transparency and accountability”.
