‎The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has expressed  support for the youths’ peaceful protest held in Benin City on Wednesday, describing it as a legitimate move by citizens to draw attention to the deteriorating conditions in Edo state and Nigeria at large.

‎In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Dr. Samson Isibor, the coalition noted that the protest was a direct response to the escalating poverty, unemployment, and general hardship faced by the people.

‎“We have noted with grave concern that wherever you turn to in Edo state, it is lamentation. The heat of poverty is staring us in the face; we have never had it this bad,” the statement said.

‎CRPP also condemned what it described as the “lackadaisical and nonchalant attitude” of Governor Monday Okpebholo, alleging that the state government had shown no visible effort to alleviate the suffering of Edo residents.

‎The coalition highlighted what it described as soaring house rents, poor infrastructure, unmotorable roads, non-functional health centres, high unemployment, and rising insecurity, including kidnapping.

‎It further warned that many entrepreneurs are leaving the state due to the high cost of doing business, adding that the economic situation is stifling growth and opportunity.

‎CRPP, therefore, called on Governor Okpebholo to “wake up to his responsibilities or resign,” insisting that the current administration seems overwhelmed by the pressing challenges confronting Edo citizens.
