The Management of Bauchi State owned Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), has reassured the general public particularly parents and guardians of its Students of adequate security of every Student on Campus.

The Management on Saturday, 25 April, 2026, was addressing the recent incident involving one of its students, Maryam Yakeem, a 200-level student of Biology Education, who was reportedly attacked by unknown individuals suspected to be phone snatchers.

The unfortunate incident occurred outside the University environment, contrary to some misleading reports circulating in certain online media platforms suggesting that the attack took place within the University premises.

The University Management stated categorically that the claim was  false and does not reflect the reality of the situation.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fatimah Tahir, reaffirmed that the University has continued to prioritize the safety and security of its students and staff across its three campuses.

Through sustained collaboration with internal security structures and relevant agencies, the University has recorded significant success, with no reported cases of insecurity within its campuses.

It will be recalled that the Vice-Chancellor sometimes ago paid a courtesy visit to the State Commissioner of Police to further strengthen collaboration and enhance security support for the University community.

The Management expressed concern over the actions of some online media outlets disseminating unverified and misleading information capable of causing unnecessary panic and public unrest.

Such conduct fell short of the ethics and professionalism expected in Journalism.

In response to the incident, the Chief Security Officer of the University as well as Dean, Students Affairs promptly visited the victim at the hospital to ensure she receives adequate medical attention. We are pleased to report that her condition is stable.

The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Management, extended heartfelt sympathy to the affected student.

The University remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all students.

The Management hereby calls for calm among students, staff, and the general public, and assures that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the continued safety of members of the University community, both within and outside the campus, as contained in a statement signed by Auwal Hassan, Public Relations Officer, Sa’adu Zungur University, Bauchi.
