Sultan charges journalists  on ethics as SPN immortalises late Sifawa

Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar lll has called  journalists to strictly adhere to ethics of the noble profession.

The Sultan made the call during the unveiling a Media Gallery Memorial in honour of the late Siraji Dalhatu Sifawa, a staff with Sokoto Rima Television who dead on 13 January this year after a brief illiness.

Sultan who was represented by the District Head of Gagi, Alhaji Sani Umar Jabbi, advised journalists to verify facts before publication and consider the impact of their reports on peace and stability

Speaking on virtues of the late Sirajo, the Sultan extolled the sterling contributions of the deceased and described him as “a consummate and prolific journalist”, whose positive impact on journalism practice in the country could not be easily forgotten.

The Sokoto Professionals Network (SPN) organized the event to unveil a Media Gallery Memorial in honour of a late Surajo Dalhatu Sifawa.

Earlier speaking, the chairman, Sokoto Professional Network Incorporated Trustees, Engineer Zayyanu Tambari Yabo, described the deceased as a quintessential journalist and a core professional.

Engr. Zayyanu also described  the deceased as unparalleled dedicated, committed and worthy of emulation by all working journalists in the nation.

He said that the SPN has lost a rare gem , a pillar whose vacuum would be very difficult to fill.

Also speaking, the Managing Director, Sokoto State Media Corporation, Labaran Lumo Dundaye, represented by the Shehu Garba, Manager News, RTV, said that Sifawa’s death had created a wide vacuum that it too difficult to fill.

The Chairman of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Usman Mohammed Binji, commended SPN for organising the event, saying, ” we will forever remain eternally grateful to the deceased.

“His remarkable legacies will also remain evergreen in our minds,” the NUJ Chairman added.

There were numerous other speakers at the event who also extolled the unequalled contributions of the late Surajo Dalhatu Sifawa to journalism practice in the state and the country in general.

They included veteran journalists including Kabiru Assada and Yusuf Dingyadi, Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof.

Nentawe Yilwatda.

Also speaking, Amb. Faruk Malami Yabo, former Nigeria’ s Ambassador to Jordan, represented by Bello Garkuwan Yabo, also said, “we lost a friend and brother.”

Speaking on behalf of deceased family,  daughter of the deceased, Hafsat Surajo Dalhatu Sifawa, commended the network for organising the event, saying, ” we will continue to cherish this invaluable gesture.

” Our late father was a very pious, humble and dedicated journalist and kind bread winner.” She stated

The unveiling of the memorial, organised by the SPN to immortalise the deceased, was witnessed by a myriad of his colleagues, relatives, family members and associates.

Until his death, the deceased was the Director, Media and Pubic Relations of the Network, while he was also a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
