Soldiers from the 233 Battalion, working with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have killed three suspected terrorists during a patrol in Babbangida area of Yobe State.

According to military sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, a counter insurgency expert in the Lake Chad basin, the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on April 19 in Nanewa village.

The troops were on routine patrol when they ran into an ambush set by suspected terrorists along their route.

Despite the surprise attack, the soldiers were able to fight back and engaged the attackers in a gun battle. In the exchange, three of the suspected terrorists were killed.

After the clash, troops recovered three AK-47 rifles and five motorcycles that were left behind by the fleeing attackers.

No soldier was injured during the operation, and the team returned safely to their base around 7:15 p.m.

Security sources say the situation in the area is currently calm, though still uncertain.

They added that troops remain ready and motivated, with ongoing patrols and operations aimed at preventing terrorist groups from moving freely in the area.
