US President Donald Trump has removed Attorney General Pam Bondi amid growing dissatisfaction with her performance, particularly over handling of files linked to the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump, while praising Bondi as a loyal ally, said she would move to the private sector. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will serve as interim head of the Justice Department.

Bondi’s tenure was marked by an aggressive push of Trump’s agenda and criticism that she eroded the department’s institutional independence.
However, controversy surrounding Epstein-related disclosures, including allegations of delays, redactions, and mismanagement, dominated her exit.

Bondi is the second senior Trump official to be ousted recently. Trump removed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on March 5 following criticism of her management of the agency and Trump’s immigration agenda.

Bondi, a former Republican state attorney general in Florida, said she worked ‌on restoring the Justice Department’s focus on violent crime and rebuilding trust with Trump’s supporters after federal prosecutors twice criminally charged Trump during his years out of power.
