Ahmad Lawan, senator representing Yobe north and former
senate president, says supporters have raised about N188 million to support his
2027 governorship bid.
The fundraising event was held on Sunday in Damaturu, the
state capital.
In an appreciation message issued on Monday, Lawan thanked
the Coalition of Yobe East Progressive Youths led by Mohammed Yerima for
organising the fundraising campaign.
Lawan said the funds were realised through pledges, cash
donations, and bank transfers into a dedicated account.
The lawmaker said the most notable aspect of the fundraising
drive was the participation of ordinary citizens who contributed small amounts.
He noted that several donations ranged from N100 to N3,000,
adding that contributors included widows, mechanic apprentices, traders, and
students.
“That, to me, is the true definition of grassroots
participation and community ownership,” Lawan said.
“You have not only raised funds for forms; you have
redefined what it means to be progressive citizens of Yobe State.”
The senator said the gesture reflects a shared commitment to
building an open and accountable government in the state.
“My desire to serve is to answer the call of our people. May
Allah continue to direct and guide us in this endeavour. Amin,” he added.
