Over 5,000 supporters of two governorship aspirants – Dr. Faisal Shuaibu and Dr. Musa Ahmed Mohammed of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have

shifted their allegiance to former Inspector General of Police IGP Mohammed Adamu Abubakar ahead of 2027 general elections in Nasarawa state.

While Shauibu is a former executive director National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Mohammed was Nasarawa state accountant-general.

This followed their withdrawal from the APC governorship race in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the groups, Thursday, in Lafia, Abdulhaq Dauda, said their decision was driven by the desire for a more people-oriented leadership in Nasarawa state.

He said their earlier support for Dr. Shuaib was based on his commitment to people-driven governance, but his withdrawal and subsequent directive did not align with their expectations.

He also explained that they rejected a directive by Shuaib, who had withdrawn from the race, asking them to support the preferred candidate of governor Abdullahi Sule.

“Our support for Dr. Shuaib was anchored on his commitment to entrench people-driven governance.

“However, following his withdrawal and directive, we chose to back Abubakar Adamu, having considered his leadership qualities and prospects of uplifting the common man in Nasarawa state,” Dauda said.

Also speaking, Abdul Maidoki, a leader of supporters of another withdrawn aspirant, Mohammed, said their decision to support Abubakar Adamu remains firm.

“We have resolved to join forces with Abubakar Adamu based on his commitment to party discipline, internal democracy and the rule of law. We will continue to mobilise support to ensure his success at the primaries,” he added.

He called on governor Abdullahi Sule and other political appointees in the state to refrain from interference in the party’s primary process to ensure a credible and transparent election.
