The Bauchi State chapter of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has elected Senator Shehu Buba Umar as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 general elections and affirmed 31 candidates for the State House of Assembly.

The decisions were made yesterday through voice affirmation at a special delegates congress held in Bauchi on Monday, 25 May, 2026.

Senator Umar, who represents Bauchi South in the Senate, emerged unopposed after delegates endorsed his nomination.

Conducting the exercise, the party’s National Vice Chairman for the North, Haruna Buhari, said all aspirants met the requirements of the PRP constitution and electoral guidelines.

“Senator Shehu Buba Umar, having fulfilled all requirements of the law and constitution of the PRP and the electoral guidelines, I hereby declare him the duly elected gubernatorial candidate of the PRP for the 2027 general election,” Buhari announced.

He described Umar as the right choice for the party, citing his capacity to mobilize support and win elections.

State Chairman Abdulraham Muazu said the PRP was positioning itself to spring surprises in Bauchi in 2027.

He noted that the party was fortunate to have a serving senator with Umar’s political experience and reach as its flagbearer.

In his acceptance speech, Senator Umar thanked the party for the platform and said he had collapsed his political structure into the PRP after obtaining full membership in his ward in Toro Local Government Area.

He expressed confidence of victory with the backing of party members and supporters across the state.

Umar also urged youths and women in the party to begin grassroots mobilization and publicize the ideals of the PRP ahead of the polls.

The congress also affirmed 31 candidates for the State House of Assembly seats, presented one after the other by the credentials committee chairman.

Also, Shehu Aliyu, Sama’ila Dahuwa Kaila, and Salisu Zakari Ningi were also affirmed as senatorial candidates of the party for Bauchi South, Bauchi North and Bauchi Central respectively.

The PRP said it would formally unveil its campaign plans closer to the election period.
