2027: Wike’s Kinsman Set to Take Over Rivers APC Ticket as Fubara, Others Step Down Ahead of Primaries

Fresh political realignments are unfolding in Rivers State as Ogundu Chinda, a federal lawmaker and close kinsman of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, now emerges as the frontrunner for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

This follows a dramatic wave of withdrawals by key contenders, including incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who formally stepped down from the governorship race in a statement released on Wednesday.

Fubara said his decision was taken after deep consultations, stressing that it was aimed at promoting peace, unity, and stability in Rivers State ahead of the next election cycle.

Shortly after his withdrawal, George-Kelly Alabo also exited the race, while former APC governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, similarly pulled out of the contest, further reshaping the political landscape in the state.
