APC Primaries: Nasarawa Reps Members, Assembly Speaker Defeated in APC Ticket Race

Two serving members of the House of Representatives from Nasarawa State and the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly have lost their bids to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets for the 2027 general elections.

The lawmakers affected are Mohammed Abdulmumini-Ari, representing Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency; Jeremiah Umaru, representing Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency; and Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau.

Chairman of the Nasarawa State APC House of Representatives Primary Election Committee, Musa Shuaibu-Guri, announced the results on Sunday after the completion of the party primaries in four out of the five federal constituencies in the state.

According to him, the exercise was conducted peacefully in Nasarawa/Toto, Keffi/Kokona/Karu, Lafia/Obi, and Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon/Wamba constituencies under the supervision of party officials and security personnel.

Shuaibu-Guri said the outcome of the primaries reflected the wishes of party members and demonstrated the APC’s commitment to internal democracy ahead of the 2027 elections.

He, however, disclosed that the result for the Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency was still being awaited due to logistical difficulties and challenging terrain, expressing optimism that it would be received before Monday morning.

In the Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency contest, Mohammed Al-Bashir emerged victorious with 31,796 votes. Incumbent lawmaker Abdulmumini-Ari polled 9,039 votes, while Abdullahi Jibril-Alassi secured 3,728 votes and Dr. Ahmed Wadah-Ekaka got 1,888 votes.

In Keffi/Kokona/Karu Federal Constituency, Daniel Ogazi defeated Speaker Danladi Jatau after polling 13,083 votes. Jatau secured 5,873 votes, while Abdulaziz Danladi received 1,067 votes.

For Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency, Mohammed Al-Makura, who contested unopposed, polled 45,000 votes.

In the Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency primary, Tony Bala-Shammah won with 38,333 votes, defeating incumbent lawmaker Jeremiah Umaru, who scored 4,061 votes.

Shuaibu-Guri subsequently declared Mohammed Al-Bashir, Daniel Ogazi, Tony Bala-Shammah, and Mohammed Al-Makura as the APC candidates for the 2027 House of Representatives elections in their respective constituencies.
