The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, over complaints made by some soldiers on social media concerning their feeding and welfare.
NOP NIGERIA reports that the clarification was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.
The Army said its attention was drawn to complaints from some soldiers about their feeding and other welfare-related issues, which Chidiebere posted online.
According to the statement, the matter is being investigated for alleged breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy and what the Army described as an attempt to misinform the public.
Army Alleges Attempt To Create Discontent
The Army said preliminary findings showed that the soldiers discussed several issues with Chidiebere, adding that the social media influencer appeared to be inciting them to create discontent within the system.
The statement read, “While the matter is being investigated for breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy and an attempt to misinform the public, preliminary report reveals that the soldiers discussed a wide range of issues with Justice Chidiebere, who seemed to be inciting soldiers to create discontent within the system.”
The Army further alleged that one of the conversations between Chidiebere and the soldiers bordered on subversion.
It added, “An example was a chat about subversion which Chidiebere had with the soldiers. It is important to state that a situation where civilians cultivate vulnerable personnel towards acts of subversion has far-reaching implications on discipline and national security.”
Soldiers Remain In Army Custody
The Army confirmed that Chidiebere was picked up alongside the soldiers involved in the matter.
It, however, stated that while the soldiers remain in its custody, Chidiebere had been handed over to relevant civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The statement added, “Hence, Justice Chidiebere was picked by the Nigerian Army alongside the soldiers for investigation. While the soldiers remain in own custody, Chidiebere has been handed over to the relevant civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.”
The Nigerian Army maintained that it remains committed to the rule of law and would continue to work with relevant agencies to ensure that justice is served.
It said, “The Nigerian Army remains committed to the rule of law and will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure justice is served. We will continue to act within the ambit of the law in safeguarding our sovereignty.”
