Iran has reportedly used the period of a fragile ceasefire with the United States and Israel to reorganise and reposition its ballistic missile capabilities, raising concerns in Washington over a possible escalation if hostilities resume.…....
According to a report by The Times of Israel on Tuesday May 19, 2026, citing an unnamed US military official, Iranian forces have spent the past month working to restore damaged infrastructure and adapt their military strategy following earlier strikes on key missile facilities.
The official claimed that since the ceasefire took effect on April 8, Iran has been “digging out scores of bombed ballistic missile sites” and relocating mobile missile launchers in preparation for any renewed exchange of fire. The report further suggests that despite significant losses sustained during the conflict, Iranian forces are actively refining their operational tactics.
The US official also noted that previous American strikes targeted entry points and surface infrastructure at missile sites, but did not fully destroy underground launch systems. Many of these launchers, according to the assessment, were reportedly stored in deep underground tunnels and caves designed to withstand aerial bombardment.
The developments come amid continued uncertainty over the durability of the ceasefire agreement between Iran and US-Israeli forces, which has already faced multiple allegations of violations from both sides since its implementation.
Military analysts say the reported repositioning effort reflects Iran’s broader strategy of preserving its deterrence capability while reducing vulnerability to future strikes. However, they also warn that such preparations could heighten mistrust and increase the risk of renewed confrontation if diplomatic efforts fail to produce a lasting settlement.
With tensions still elevated across the region, the situation remains highly volatile, and both sides continue to signal readiness for further escalation if necessary.
