BREAKING: Nigeria Police Arrest Officer Who Threatened To Kill Anyone Filming Him On Duty

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a police officer, Newton Isokpehi, after a viral video showed him threatening to kill anyone who attempted to film him while carrying out official duties.

The disturbing video, which circulated widely on social media, captured the officer allegedly warning civilians against recording him during an operation. In the clip, he was heard making threatening remarks in Pidgin English, sparking outrage among Nigerians online.

Following the backlash, the Anambra State Police Command confirmed that the officer had been identified and taken into custody for disciplinary action.

In an official statement, the police described the officer’s conduct as “unacceptable” and “unprofessional,” stressing that his actions do not represent the values and ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.

Authorities also revealed that the officer has undergone a drug test as part of an ongoing internal investigation into the incident. The police assured members of the public that the disciplinary process would be transparent and that appropriate sanctions would be applied if he is found guilty.

The incident has reignited conversations about police accountability, abuse of power, and citizens’ rights to record law enforcement officers while performing public duties.

Under Nigerian law, citizens are generally allowed to record police officers in public spaces as long as such actions do not obstruct official operations.

After the controversy escalated online, Isokpehi released a video apologising to Nigerians for his remarks. He claimed his statement was made out of frustration and asked the public for forgiveness.

The Nigeria Police Force has continued to urge officers to maintain professionalism and respect for human rights while carrying out their responsibilities.
