India will host the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi on May 14 and 15, with discussions expected to centre around the ongoing West Asia crisis, geopolitical tensions and global energy security concerns.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will chair the meeting and is also scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with visiting ministers from Russia, Iran, Brazil and South Africa on the sidelines of the event.

The two-day meeting comes at a time of heightened uncertainty in West Asia, with the regional conflict and its impact on global oil markets and energy supplies likely to feature prominently during deliberations. Three separate sessions are scheduled as part of the BRICS engagement, where member nations are expected to discuss geopolitical developments and key global economic concerns.

All participating foreign ministers are also expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the visit.

China’s foreign minister will not attend the meeting, with Beijing instead being represented by its ambassador to India. The absence comes as US President Donald Trump is currently visiting China.

The meeting is being closely watched for signals on how BRICS nations plan to respond to escalating geopolitical risks and energy-related disruptions amid continuing instability in West Asia.
