According to a report by The Sun on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the former Imo State All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman, Chief Marcillinus Nlemigbo, has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu maintains a strong political structure capable of ensuring his victory in the 2027 presidential election.…....
He maintained that Tinubu’s reach across different parts of the country gives him a solid advantage, while suggesting that the Nigerian Democratic Party (NDC) candidate, Peter Obi, does not yet have the nationwide spread of support required to defeat the president.
Nlemigbo made these remarks while addressing reporters at his office in Owerri on Tuesday.
During the interaction, he expressed commitment to Tinubu’s re-election effort and affirmed that he would work in support of the president’s second-term ambition.
He pointed to the economic direction of the administration, referencing the Renewed Hope agenda as a key factor guiding his position and support for the president’s continuity in office.
In discussing the political outlook for the 2027 presidential contest, Nlemigbo acknowledged the qualifications and competence associated with Peter Obi.
At the same time, he questioned the political pathway available to Obi in achieving national electoral success, especially within the context of Nigeria’s broader political structure and regional dynamics.
He further emphasized that Tinubu’s political influence remains extensive, supported by a wide network of followers across various regions.
According to him, the strength of the president’s support base reflects the organizational reach of the APC and the loyalty he enjoys among party members.
He maintained that these factors continue to shape political alignments ahead of the next general election cycle.
Nlemigbo also made remarks encouraging political alignment within the South East, urging increased support for the APC and President Tinubu.
He linked this position to broader considerations about representation and participation within national leadership contests, while reinforcing his own stance as a party member committed to Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Reiterating his position on the 2027 presidential race, he maintained that political realities on the ground favor the incumbent president due to his established networks and national presence.
He also restated his belief that Tinubu’s structure within the APC remains a significant factor in shaping electoral outcomes as the country moves closer to the next election period.
“Peter Obi is qualified and competent, but there is a process to an Igbo being the President. Tinubu has many followers. As an APC member, I support Tinubu. Hence, I urge the people of the South East to vote for APC and Tinubu,” he said.
