Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has backed Nigeria to retain the Unity Cup title ahead of Saturday’s final against Jamaica in London.
The Super Eagles will face the Reggae Boyz in a repeat of last year’s final, which Nigeria won on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw in regulation time.
Nigeria secured their place in this year’s final with a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe, while Jamaica defeated India by the same scoreline to set up another showdown between the two nations.
Chelle confident of victory
Speaking ahead of the final, Chelle insisted his players are prepared to do whatever is required to defend the trophy.

“Penalties are part of the game, and they can decide who wins a match. Every time I go into a game, I have the mentality to win,” Chelle said.
“This is the culture I have put in these boys – the winning culture. I don’t know if Saturday’s game will end in penalties; what I know is that I have prepared my team to win.”
The Malian tactician also praised the youthful squad at his disposal and expressed confidence in their ability to handle the occasion.
“These are very young players with a bright future and they are hungry for success at any level. So, on Saturday, we will see how the game is decided, but we surely have prepared to win and defend the Unity Cup.”
Nigeria seek another triumph
The Super Eagles claimed the 2025 Unity Cup after converting all five penalties in the shootout against Jamaica, with Dwayne Atkinson missing the decisive spot-kick for the Caribbean side.
Although key players Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze are not part of this year’s squad, Nigeria have continued to impress, with debutant Femi Azeez scoring both goals in the semi-final victory over Zimbabwe.
Jamaica also arrive in strong form after goals from Courtney Clarke and Kaheim Dixon secured their win over India.
