Chelle’s Osimhen comments fuels player’s transfer speculation

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has added fresh fuel to speculation surrounding Victor Osimhen’s future after suggesting the striker could be on the verge of a club move.

The Nigeria forward has been linked with a possible switch to Manchester United, while also continuing to attract interest from several top European sides ahead of the summer transfer window.

Chelle’s remarks came as he outlined squad absences for Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal.

Nigeria are currently preparing for their European tour following back-to-back Unity Cup successes, including a 3-0 win over Jamaica in the final in London.

However, Chelle confirmed Osimhen will not be part of the squad, stating the striker requested time away to focus on his club situation.

“We miss two players because Victor Osimhen maybe he is about to change club, so I prefer he stays at home because if he plays and is not at 100 percent is not good,” Chelle said.

The coach indicated the decision was made to allow the 26-year-old concentrate fully on resolving his future ahead of a potential transfer.

Manchester United interest continues

Osimhen has been consistently linked with a move to Manchester United as the Premier League side look to strengthen their attacking options.

Reports suggest the club view him as a leading target, although his transfer fee and wage demands remain significant obstacles.

United are also exploring alternative striker options as part of a wider squad rebuild, with internal discussions ongoing regarding attacking depth.

European interest remains strong

The Nigerian striker’s future has long been the subject of speculation, with several European clubs previously monitoring his situation.

Osimhen has previously been linked with moves across Italy and France, and is widely regarded as one of the most sought-after forwards in world football.
