LAGOS, Nigeria — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed that a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has reserved ruling on the bail application filed by social media influencer and relationship therapist, Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, popularly known as Blessing CEO, in her ongoing alleged ₦36 million fraud case.
The trial judge, Justice D.I. Dipeolu, reserved the ruling after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defence counsel during proceedings held on Friday.
Blessing CEO is facing a two-count charge bordering on alleged obtaining by false pretence and stealing involving a total sum of ₦36 million. The charges were filed by the EFCC following a petition alleging fraudulent conduct connected to funds reportedly solicited from members of the public.
During the hearing, counsel to the defendant urged the court to grant bail on liberal terms, arguing that the accused is willing to stand trial and would not interfere with investigations or court proceedings.
However, the prosecution opposed the application, insisting that the court should carefully consider the nature of the allegations and the circumstances surrounding the case before reaching a decision.
The anti-graft agency had earlier arraigned Blessing CEO before the court, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against her.
In a previous proceeding, the defence informed the court that efforts had been made toward restitution, claiming that a substantial portion of the disputed funds had already been refunded. The prosecution, however, maintained that any repayment arrangement does not extinguish criminal liability and should not affect the continuation of the trial.
Justice Dipeolu subsequently adjourned the matter and fixed June 9, 2026, for the ruling on the bail application.
The case has attracted significant public attention due to Blessing CEO’s prominence on social media, where she is known for her relationship advice and commentary on social issues.
The court’s forthcoming decision is expected to determine whether the defendant will remain in custody or be released on bail pending the conclusion of the trial.
Meanwhile, the substantive hearing of the case is expected to continue as the prosecution seeks to prove the allegations against the defendant beyond a reasonable doubt.
