COAS frontline Sallah visit will boost troops’ morale — Sokoto security adviser

The Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Sokoto State Governor, Col. Ahmed Usman (retd.), has said the Eid-el-Kabir visit by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, to frontline troops will strengthen the resolve of soldiers fighting banditry and other crimes in the North-West.

Usman spoke in Sokoto on Thursday after the COAS, represented by the Commander, Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Godwin Mutkut, celebrated the Eid-el-Kabir with troops of Operation Fansan Yamma at the Forward Operating Base in Tureta Local Government Area of the state.

The Army delegation shared lunch with the troops during the visit.

Usman described the gesture as a strong show of support for officers and soldiers serving in difficult operational environments.

He said: “This visit by the Chief of Army Staff to troops at the frontline during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration is highly commendable and deeply encouraging to the officers and men risking their lives daily to protect our people.”

According to him, the presence of the military high command at the frontline would reassure troops that their sacrifices are recognised and appreciated.

He said: “Celebrating with the troops at their duty posts sends a strong message that the military high command values their sacrifices, commitment and patriotism.

“It will certainly boost their morale and operational confidence.”

The retired army officer added that the visit reflected the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the welfare, motivation and wellbeing of its personnel.

Usman also reaffirmed the commitment of the Sokoto State Government to supporting security agencies in the fight against insecurity across the state.

He said: “The Sokoto State Government will continue to provide the necessary support and cooperation to security agencies to ensure the success of ongoing operations against banditry and related crimes.”

The security adviser urged residents to continue assisting security agencies with useful and timely information.

He said: “Security is a collective responsibility.

“Citizens must continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that can help in tackling criminal elements threatening peace and stability in our communities.”

Usman also prayed for the success of ongoing military operations and wished troops serving in different theatres across the country a peaceful and successful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
