Political activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has stirred reactions online after calling on the Federal Government to honour Peter Obi with a national award for what he described as Obi’s role in redirecting former Biafra agitators into mainstream Nigerian politics.
In a post shared on social media, Adeyanju described Obi as a “content creator” but argued that the former Anambra governor deserved commendation for giving hope to many young Nigerians and changing online political conversations.
According to him, “All the Biafra flags on social media accounts have been replaced with Obi’s picture,” adding that Obi helped “sanitize” the digital space by drawing separatist sympathisers into active political engagement within Nigeria.
Adeyanju, however, also took a swipe at Obi’s presidential ambition, questioning his political strength ahead of the 2027 elections. He claimed Obi was “afraid of ordinary primaries with Atiku” and doubted his ability to confront President Bola Ahmed Tinubu politically, describing Tinubu as the “grab it, snatch it and run with it master....... .
