Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing recent developments within the party in Delta State and concerns over his ability to advance the interests of his constituents.

Omo-Agege announced his resignation in a letter dated Friday, 22 May, 2026, addressed to the APC Chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. The former lawmaker said the decision followed extensive consultations with his political associates and supporters.

In the letter, the former Deputy Senate President stated that his political objectives, alongside the aspirations of Delta Central constituents, would be better pursued outside the ruling party.

“I hereby resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress, effective immediately,” he wrote.

He further explained that developments within the APC in Delta State had compelled him to reconsider his political future within the party.

“After reviewing recent developments in the party in Delta State and consulting with my associates and supporters, it is clear my political objectives and those of my constituents are better served outside the APC,” he stated.

Omo-Agege maintained that remaining in the party would hinder his capacity to effectively represent the interests of Delta Central and the wider Nigerian public.

“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he added.

The former Deputy President of the Senate, however, expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunity to serve in the ninth National Assembly, where he held one of the country’s highest legislative offices.

“I thank the party for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate. I wish the APC well and request that my name be removed from all membership records, registers, and communication lists,” he said.

Omo-Agege reaffirmed his commitment to political service and development, stressing that his focus remains on effective representation and advancing the welfare of the people.

“My focus remains on delivering development and effective representation for Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria. I will pursue these goals outside the APC,” he stated.

In a separate press statement issued by his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh, the former Deputy Senate President officially confirmed the resignation, describing it as a strategic political decision taken after careful reflection on unfolding realities within the APC in Delta State.

The statement noted that Omo-Agege remains committed to the advancement of Delta State and Nigeria, adding that he would continue to pursue developmental goals outside the platform of the APC.

Omo-Agege served as Deputy President of the Senate from 2019 to 2023 and remains a prominent political figure in Delta State politics. His resignation is expected to reshape political alignments within the APC and the broader political landscape ahead of future elections in the state.
