The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Dr. Sam Amadi, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) could face serious political consequences in Delta State if former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege aligns with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Thursday May 28, 2026, while reacting to Omo-Agege’s resignation from the APC, Amadi said the former Delta Central senator remains a major political force whose support could significantly strengthen any opposition platform he joins.
“If Omo-Agege signs up with Peter Obi’s party the NDC, he will further bolster that party, and that could well mean they defeat the APC in Delta State,” Amadi said.
He noted that Omo-Agege commands an established political structure in Delta State, having previously contested for governor and built a loyal network during his time as Deputy Senate President.
According to Amadi, although it remains unclear which political platform Omo-Agege may eventually join, his departure from the APC represents a substantial setback for the ruling party in Delta State.
The political analyst argued that Omo-Agege’s influence could reshape opposition calculations in the state, particularly if he aligns with Peter Obi’s NDC, which has been gaining traction in parts of the South-South region ahead of the 2027 elections.
