The Embassy of the Netherlands has introduced its newly hired Residence and Private Chef, Dorin Joy Nyawira Gicuku, who will serve at the ambassador’s residence in Nairobi.

In a warm welcome message shared online, the embassy described Joy as a passionate culinary professional excited to begin her new journey in Kenya’s capital city.
“Karibu sana, Joy!” the embassy wrote on its socials as it unveiled the chef to followers.
Joy said she feels honoured to join the embassy team, where her role places her at the centre of a busy commercial kitchen responsible for preparing meals for the ambassador, visiting dignitaries, and events at the official residence.
Chef Joy shares what she loves most about her work
According to the chef, one of the most exciting parts of her work is the creativity involved in developing new dishes and experimenting with flavours from around the world.
“What drives me most is the creative energy of the kitchen,” she shared, adding that receiving honest feedback from the ambassador motivates her to keep improving her recipes and culinary skills.

Joy revealed that she is currently developing fresh recipes for upcoming residence functions while also crafting a new menu that combines innovation with comfort food.
Beyond the kitchen, the chef described herself as an adventure traveller who enjoys discovering new destinations, reading cookbooks, watching culinary programs, and swimming during her free time.
She also praised Nairobi for its cultural diversity and peaceful atmosphere, saying she especially enjoys the serene surroundings near Karura Forest.
Her introduction has attracted positive reactions online, with many Kenyans congratulating her on securing the prestigious diplomatic role.
