President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has secured a clean sweep in Ebonyi State’s presidential primary in the All Progressives Congress (APC), winning all 207,579 accredited votes cast across the state’s 13 LGAs and 171 wards.
It was announced on Saturday at the temporary state secretariat on Waterworks Road, Abakaliki, after collation ended at about 5pm.
State Collation Officer and Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, said the APC had 215,490 registered APC members, with 207,579 accredited for the exercise.
All accredited voters voted for Tinubu, leaving the sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, with no vote.
The governor stated: “I, Nwifuru Francis Ogbonna, State Collation Officer, hereby certify that the information contained in this form represents the true, correct and accurate record of the summary of results from the local government areas of this state, Ebonyi.”
Stakeholders who monitored the exercise described it as peaceful and said the outcome reflected APC’s numerical strength and support base in the state.
The Chairpersons of Afikpo, Ishielu, Edda and Ivo Local Government Areas: Timothy Nwachi of Afikpo, Peace Agwu, Chima Ekumankama, and Emmanuel Ogbonna Ajah respectively, alongside the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Stephen Uchenna Igwe, credited the turnout to quality governance by both Nwifuru and Tinubu.
Ajah said the direct primary was a sign of what to expect in 2027.
He said: “Our party enjoys massive support and the largest number of members in the state.
“This is attributable to Governor Francis Nwifuru’s performance, which complements President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through the People’s Charter of Needs.”
A breakdown of the LGA results showed that Ohaozara, the home base of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, recorded the highest votes with 25,453.
Ikwo followed with 19,341, while Governor Nwifuru’s Izzi LGA came third with 19,160 votes.
