The Oluomo of Yewaland, Chief Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun, has called for the swift and safe rescue of abducted teachers, students and other victims across Nigeria, lamenting that the spate of insecurity has dampened the joy of the Eid al-Adha celebration.
Egungbohun, in a goodwill message to mark the 2026 Eid al-Adha, felicitated Muslims worldwide and urged Nigerians to reflect on the spiritual essence of the festival by embracing sacrifice, obedience, compassion and faith.
The message, which he e-signed from Madinah, emphasised the need for citizens to show love to the less privileged and promote unity across ethnic and religious divides.
He said the continued abduction of innocent citizens, particularly teachers and students, remained a source of concern, noting that many families were unable to celebrate due to the absence of their loved ones.
Egungbohun said, “We stand in solidarity with grieving families in Oyo, Ogbomoso, Borno and other parts of the country. Our hearts are with every teacher and student taken from their schools and homes.
“During this holy season of answered prayers, I beseech Allah to soften the hearts of the captors and grant a swift, safe and miraculous rescue of all victims.”
The businessman and community leader urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in prayers and hopeful for an end to insecurity, stressing that collective efforts were needed to build a peaceful and prosperous nation.
He also prayed for divine wisdom for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing hope that government policies would strengthen security, foster unity and reposition the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Egungbohun further called on citizens to uphold the enduring values of Eid al-Adha, including sacrifice, tolerance and selflessness, while continuing to pray for peace, stability and national progress.
