Eid-Ul-Adha: TMC Urges Leaders, Muslims to Embrace Sacrifice, Reject Immorality, Seek National Renewal

The Ogun State chapter of The Muslim Congress (TMC) has congratulated Muslims in Ogun State and across Nigeria on the 2026 Eid-Ul-Adha celebration, urging faithful and political leaders to embrace the spirit of sacrifice, obedience, and spiritual rebirth as lessons of the festival.

The group said the Eid celebration, rooted in the obedience of Prophets Ibrahim, Ismail, and Muhammad (SAW), offers enduring solutions to the moral, economic, and socio-political challenges confronting Nigeria and the world.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the Waali of the group, Dr. Jamiu Folarin, TMC said the significance of Eid-Ul-Adha goes far beyond ritual slaughter, stressing that it should inspire reflection, discipline, and national responsibility.

“The celebration of Eid-Ul-Adha comes with bundles of lessons which Muslims across the world must maximise in reversing the spiritual, social, political, and economic downturn currently being experienced globally,” the statement said.

The organisation urged Muslims to see the festival as a moment of spiritual renewal and recommitment to righteous living, warning against reducing the celebration to mere festivities devoid of moral content.

It emphasised that sacrifice—the core message of Eid—should guide both citizens and leaders, particularly those in positions of authority.

“The symbol of sacrifice, which is the foundation of this festival, should be the guiding principle for all Nigerians, especially those at the helm of affairs,” TMC stated.

The group further called on political office holders to use the period to reassess their stewardship and renew their commitment to the social contract with the people, warning that leadership accountability extends beyond the earthly realm.

“We appeal to governments and representatives of the people at all levels to use the occasion of this festival to renew their commitment to the social contract they entered into with the people, bearing in mind that Allah will call them to account on the Day of Judgement,” it said.

TMC lamented what it described as worsening global crises, arguing that repeated attempts by the world to solve socio-economic challenges through various models have yielded limited success.

It maintained that Islamic principles remain a viable framework for addressing societal decay and fostering sustainable development.

“It seems the world has experimented with different models to address the multitude of challenges confronting humanity with little or no headway. Muslims should avail the world—at individual, family, and societal levels—the time-tested Islamic model in providing sustainable solutions to these problems,” the group added.

The organisation also cautioned against excesses during the celebration, warning that indulgence in immoral conduct, recklessness, and neglect of spiritual duties undermines the essence of Eid-Ul-Adha.

“It is an act of worship which should not be tainted with sins, recklessness, or immoral conduct, but rather characterised by virtuous deeds, moderation, and compassion for humanity,” TMC warned.

The group prayed for peace, unity, and divine mercy upon Nigeria and the global Muslim community, urging citizens to uphold values that promote harmony and national stability during and beyond the festive period.
