El-Rufai: “We Are Being Followed And Our Phones Are Allegedly Monitored–Asia El-Rufai

According to report by Daily Trust on Monday, May 18, 2026, Family members of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, along with supporters and political associates, on Monday protested at the headquarters of the Department of State Services in Abuja over his continued detention.…....

The protesters questioned the decision to move the former governor from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to the DSS, insisting that the transfer did not align with existing court directives. They argued that the movement between security agencies had raised concerns about compliance with judicial orders and due process.

During the demonstration, supporters carried placards and demanded transparency from authorities regarding the legal basis for El-Rufai’s continued detention. They also called on security agencies to ensure that all actions taken against him remain within constitutional and legal boundaries.

Speaking to journalists at the protest ground, Asia El-Rufai, the former governor’s second wife, described the emotional strain the situation had allegedly placed on the family. According to her, the uncertainty surrounding his detention had created fear and anxiety within their household.

She alleged that the family had also been facing intimidation and threats since the former governor was taken into custody. In her words, “We now live in constant fear. Every day we get threats that DSS, ICPC or the police may raid our home. We are being followed and our phones are allegedly monitored.”

Asia claimed that the alleged surveillance and threats had worsened the family’s sense of insecurity and emotional distress.
