Foreign Affairs Ministry to cancel incomplete passport applications after 2 months

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that passport applications that remain incomplete for more than two months will be automatically cancelled.

The new directive affects applicants who fail to complete essential requirements, including submission of supporting documents, biometric capture, or pending re-capture processes.

In a public notice issued in Accra on May 15, 2026, the Ministry stated that affected applicants will have to begin the entire application process again, including paying new application fees, as previous payments will not be refunded.

The Ministry urged applicants to complete all required steps promptly to avoid cancellation and unnecessary delays.

It also advised the public to comply with the new policy within the stated timeframe to prevent loss of fees and processing setbacks.

For enquiries and assistance, applicants can contact the Ministry’s 24-hour call centre on 0302 754 200.

The Ministry further reaffirmed its commitment to improving passport service delivery and ensuring efficient processing across the country.
