Nigeria’s entertainment industry is once again crossing into politics as several Nollywood actors, musicians’ relatives, and social media personalities begin moves to contest in the 2027 general elections.

According to reports, the trend shows a growing wave of celebrities transitioning from fame on screen and social media into active political roles across different levels of government.

Among the most notable names already making headlines is veteran actress Foluke Daramola-Salako, who has officially obtained nomination forms to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

She is reportedly eyeing the Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency 1 seat in Lagos State, where she has pledged to focus on workers’ welfare and community development if elected.

Another familiar face is actor Emeka Ike, who has also picked nomination forms to contest for a House of Representatives seat representing Abuja Municipal Area Council/Bwari Federal Constituency.

Emeka Ike previously made a similar attempt in 2018 but was unsuccessful, and he is now making another push into national politics.

Celebrity businessman Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has also joined the race, aligning with the APC and reportedly obtaining forms to contest for Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency in Imo State.

His move from nightlife and entertainment circles into politics has sparked widespread debate online about celebrity influence in governance.

Popular Nollywood actor Zubby Michael has also declared interest in politics under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling his ambition to contest for a House of Representatives seat in Anambra State.

Others on the growing list include former lawmaker and actor Rotimi Makinde, who is reportedly planning a political comeback in Osun State, and Damilola Marshal, daughter of Fuji music legend K1 De Ultimate, who is preparing to contest in Lagos State politics.

Businessman Ike Cubana has also been linked to political ambition under the APGA platform, reportedly aiming for a federal constituency seat in Anambra State.

The increasing involvement of entertainers in politics has sparked mixed reactions, with supporters praising their courage to participate in governance, while critics question whether fame translates into effective leadership.

As 2027 approaches, observers say Nigeria may witness one of the highest levels of celebrity participation in electoral politics in recent history.
