Fubara: With Collecting Form First, He Didn’t Show Sign Of Gentlemanliness–Wike

According to a report by This Day Live on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has linked the decision of Siminalayi Fubara to step down from the governorship race of the All Progressives Congress to an alleged agreement reached with political groups opposed to him in Rivers State.

According to Wike, the arrangement was aimed at halting the impeachment moves against the Rivers State governor on the condition that he would not contest for a second term in 2027.

The former Rivers governor made the remarks on Tuesday during an inspection of projects in Abuja ahead of activities marking the third anniversary of the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Wike stated that the development did not come as a surprise to him, maintaining that the circumstances surrounding Fubara’s withdrawal reflected the political understanding that had already been reached among the parties involved.

He said the decision was consistent with events that had unfolded within the political structure in Rivers State in recent months.

The FCT minister also faulted Fubara for initially obtaining the nomination form before later withdrawing from the race.

He argued that the action did not reflect sincerity and described it as conduct that fell short of what he expected from someone he once supported politically.

During the inspection tour, Wike continued his criticism of the Rivers governor, accusing him of betraying political trust and abandoning the principles expected in political relationships.

He maintained that the governor’s actions had further deepened the crisis between both camps.

The inspection exercise formed part of preparations for projects scheduled for inauguration under the Federal Capital Territory Administration as the Tinubu administration marks its third year in office.

Wike used the occasion to speak on national political developments as well as the lingering tensions in Rivers State politics.

He said, “I’m not surprised that he had to withdraw at that stage. But with collecting form first, he didn’t show sign of gentlemanliness. He didn’t show that sign and that was not expected….See More
