Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, son of a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the New Democratic Coalition.
Abdulaziz is seeking to represent Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency of Kano State, marking a significant political realignment away from his family’s longstanding ties with the APC.
Findings by PLATFORM TIMES indicate that the younger Ganduje has already obtained the nomination form of the NDC, a move widely interpreted as a shift towards the political camp of former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The development comes amid growing political reconfigurations in Kano, where the NDC—recently adopted by Kwankwaso after his exit from the African Democratic Congress—has been gaining traction among grassroots mobilisers and key stakeholders.
Observers say Abdulaziz’s defection and subsequent declaration could reshape the political dynamics within the constituency, traditionally considered a stronghold of the APC.
They added that his entrance into the race is likely to intensify competition ahead of the 2027 general elections, with expectations of a fierce contest between the NDC and the APC.
Efforts to get reactions from APC officials in the state were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
