Governor Bala Mohammed picks APM form for Bauchi senate bid

Bala Mohammed has officially picked up the senatorial nomination form of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), just five days after joining the party.

The development comes after Mohammed resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party on May 2, citing ongoing legal disputes and internal crises within the party.

He subsequently joined the APM, describing it as a stable platform for him and his supporters to continue political participation.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Mohammed confirmed that he collected the party’s nomination form during the APM National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the party’s headquarters.

“During the meeting, I officially picked up my nomination form to contest for the senate seat representing Bauchi south senatorial district under the platform of the APM ahead of the forthcoming elections,” he said.

He noted that the NEC meeting, presided over by Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, addressed key national and party issues, while also allowing him to formally engage with the party leadership.

Mohammed said Nigeria’s political environment has become increasingly difficult due to what he described as “undemocratic practices and political intimidation”, which he claims hinder genuine political participation.

After consultations with political associates and supporters nationwide, he said the APM emerged as the most suitable platform for his ambitions.

He added that the party aligns with his values in areas such as good governance, internal democracy, justice, inclusiveness, and rule of law.

“I further emphasised that our decision to join the party was driven by conviction and the desire to contribute meaningfully to building a stronger democratic culture in Nigeria,” he said.

The governor also stated that several political office holders and stakeholders who previously aligned with the PDP structure in Bauchi have followed him into the APM.

According to him, members of the National Assembly, the Bauchi State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, commissioners, ward executives, and grassroots supporters have all moved with him.

Mohammed assured the party leadership of his commitment to supporting the growth and success of the APM through resources, experience, and political engagement.
