The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria Chairman, Amb Ismail Abba Yusuf, has directed the Security Committee to investigate the caterers who supplied sub standard meals Wednesday night and those who facilitated their contracts.
This was contained in a statement signed by the NAHCON management and circulated among journalists on Thursday.
NAHCON’s directive followed poor handling and packaging standards of Wednesday’s dinner, a development the Saudi health authorities rejected immediately, in collaboration with the Commission.
The statement indicated that after the challenge, alternative light refreshment was provided by the service support company to cushion the situation, adding that NAHCON Board members had since gone round to explain the situation to the affected State managers.
Amb Yusuf also gave commitment that arrangements have been initiated for the earliest refunds to the affected pilgrims.
The Eagle Online reports that the Saudi Health authorities have continued to enforce strict food safety standards to ensure the wellbeing of all pilgrims during the Hajj period, especially considering the prevailing weather conditions.
In a similar development, the Hajj body said its Chairman has instructed the Central Security Committee to thoroughly investigate and identify the Tour Operators who allegedly brought in more pilgrims than they actually registered while at the same time are found to be exploiting innocent pilgrims.
“At the conclusion of investigations, those found guilty will be penalized and have their licenses withdrawn” NAHCON Chairman warned
The Commission appreciated the understanding of the pilgrims and reassured all of its continued commitment to their welfare throughout the Hajj exercise.
