A wave of political violence has struck the Federal Capital Territory following a harrowing assault on Senator Ireti Kingibe and officials of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at the party’s secretariat in Abuja.
According to an official report from The Sun on Sunday, May 24, the violent encounter unfolded on Thursday, May 21, 2026, in the Gudu area of the capital city, leaving the high-profile lawmaker hospitalized with significant injuries.
The crisis reportedly began when a man, identified by onlookers and officials as Tijani Mubarak, arrived at the party venue accompanied by a large group of individuals.
Without warning, Mubarak’s associates launched a coordinated assault on the ADC members who were gathered at the secretariat.
The situation rapidly deteriorated from a tense standoff into a chaotic and highly dangerous scene.
Senator Kingibe described how the invaders ruthlessly targeted party faithful before a direct, physical assault was leveled against her.
Recounting the terrifying moments of the ambush, Senator Kingibe shared the graphic details of the direct physical violence she faced during the melee:
“One of Mubarak’s men turned on me… grabbed me, and flung me violently against the wall, hitting my head with severe force,” Senator Kingibe stated.
Immediately following the targeted assault, the lawmaker’s health rapidly declined as she began experiencing alarming physical symptoms, including blinding headaches and blurred vision.
