“I Cried Wearing It” — Queen Atang Speaks on AMVCA Bread Outfit

Reality TV personality and actress Queen Mercy Atang has revealed the painful experience she endured while wearing her now-viral outfit to the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The actress, popularly known as Queen Atang, explained during an interview with BBC Pidgin that the unusual dress caused her physical pain and emotional stress because of its extreme weight.

The outfit, created by celebrity designer Toyin Lawani and her fashion brand Tiannah Empire, featured bread-inspired elements that immediately drew attention online after the award ceremony.

According to Queen, the dress was so heavy that she broke down in tears shortly after putting it on for the first time.

She disclosed that the weight of the outfit left visible injuries on her body, especially around her back and waist area. Despite the discomfort, she eventually gathered the courage to wear it and attend the event.

She explained that she was not directly involved in creating the concept of the outfit, as the design was entirely handled by Toyin Lawani and her team. Queen said she simply trusted the designer’s creative vision and waited patiently while the outfit was being prepared over several weeks.

The reality star also admitted that she initially had no intention of attending the AMVCA. However, she later changed her mind after discussions with her designer, who encouraged her to embrace the bold fashion idea.

Even though she arrived after the official red carpet session had ended, Queen still made appearances at the venue and posed for photographs that later spread rapidly across social media platforms.

What surprised her most, she said, was the level of international attention the dress received after the event. She explained that her original intention was simply to promote her business and make a memorable fashion statement, not to become a global talking point.

The online buzz surrounding the outfit became even bigger after Guinness World Records reacted to videos of the dress circulating online. The organisation jokingly referenced its category for the world’s largest cake dress, sparking further conversations among fans and social media users.

Queen’s AMVCA appearance has continued to divide opinions online, with some people praising the creativity and boldness of the outfit while others questioned its practicality. Nevertheless, the actress appears pleased with the publicity generated by the unconventional fashion choice.

Her revelation has also highlighted the extreme lengths celebrities sometimes go to in order to stand out during high-profile events, especially at award ceremonies known for glamorous and dramatic red carpet moments.
