“I Didn’t Buy ADC Form To Be Anyone’s Running Mate” — Amaechi Speaks Ahead of 2027

Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed speculations that he may settle for the Vice Presidential slot ahead of the 2027 general election.

Amaechi stated clearly that he did not purchase the presidential nomination form of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to later emerge as anyone’s running mate.

The former minister spoke on Monday during an interview on Trust TV while reacting to discussions surrounding the battle for the ADC presidential ticket and growing talks of possible political alliances within the opposition.

According to him, those pushing such narratives should stop because he remains fully committed to his presidential ambition.

“Please stop that. I didn’t buy the ADC presidential ticket to become Vice President,” he said.

Amaechi also spoke on the issue of consensus among aspirants within the party. He said if the ADC leadership decides to adopt a consensus arrangement, all contenders must first meet and agree to the process.

He explained that where there is no agreement among aspirants, the party should allow a transparent primary election to determine its candidate.

The former Rivers governor maintained that democracy within the party must be respected and that every aspirant deserves a fair opportunity to test popularity through the ballot.

His comments come amid increasing political consultations and alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential race, with several opposition figures reportedly seeking a united front against the ruling party.

Amaechi had earlier challenged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over the issue of zoning. He insisted that if Atiku does not believe in zoning, then all aspirants should face each other in an open primary contest.
